Welcome to Women Writing Together

The process, not the product

At Women Writing Together, the focus isn't so much on the quality of writing—although I adore great writing and will help you get there—but rather on the process. The process of getting the messy thoughts and words down on paper. The process of sneaking up on our conscious mind, yelling "boo!", and seeing what falls out. The process of finding our voice, and finding the courage to use it.

And because it can be scary (and hope-filled, and invigorating!), we do it together. In a circle of supportive, encouraging women.

How it works

During our sessions, we spend time writing in response to thought-provoking and creativity-boosting prompts. Then, we listen to anyone who wants to share what she has written (sharing is always optional). There are no critiques. We understand that although these first drafts may someday grow into beautiful, elegant, finely-crafted pieces of writing, for now they're just tender little shoots, whispers from our deep and authentic self. And they deserve our protection.

All styles of writing welcome

In a Women Writing Together session, you have the freedom to stick to the form you like best, or try out something altogether new. Prose, poetry, song-writing, stream-of-consciousness, journaling—all of it has a place, all of it can be fun and rewarding.

This may be a good fit for you if:

• you're interested in the power of writing to connect to yourself and others
• you've never written before, but you're excited to give it a try
• you're an experienced writer who wants to approach her work from a fresh angle

This may not be a good fit for you if:

• you're looking for a harsh critique of a work-in-progress
