Professional Memoir Ghostwriter, Editor, and Publisher
Life story writer Amy Woods Butler found her true calling in 2010 when she discovered she could make a living asking people about their lives as a personal historian. She has written about Latin Americans, Midwest grandmothers, and Southern gentlemen. She has listened to tales of a Cherokee state trooper, a refugee from Hurricane Katrina, and a woman who, at age 90, continues to fight social injustice in Kansas City.
At 22, Amy's instincts led her to jot down some of the facts about her Grandma Mildred's life. It wasn't until two decades later that she understood the desire to have a full recording of a loved one's life story—and the regret at realizing this too late. With that, her career as a life story writer was born. She founded The Story Scribe because she wants to hear your story. More importantly, she wants others to hear it, too.
In addition to her work recording the life stories of her clients, Amy has published interviews, essays and reviews in a number of publications, including the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, the Kansas City Star and the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette.
She also created a resource for other life story professionals, The Life Story Coach Podcast and the The Life Story Coach website. She recognizes the growing demand for memoir services, particularly among the Baby Boomer generation, and hopes her efforts to share quality information and education will allow more people to save their stories.
