I need help writing a book about my life.
That's not what we usually hear, is it? More often, people talk about how they want to write their memoir or life story book themselves, not hire someone to do it for them. After all, the person who lived the life should be the one best able to write the stories, right?
Well, yes and no.
For some, the two-step process of reflecting back on life and committing those experiences to paper comes naturally. They know how to plumb their memories, dust off the gems, and string together a narrative people will want to read. They have the inspiration to begin and the discipline to finish.
In my experience, those people are rare.
Far more typical are those who start a book only to lose momentum after a few pages. Or, even more common, the people who never start at all.
Why? Because writing a book is hard. And writing a book about one’s life, deciding which memories to include and which not to, is even harder.
And so would-be writers procrastinate. They still dream of recording their stories, but they don’t know exactly how to go about doing it, so they put it off until later. It becomes a project for “someday.”
When the kids are raised.
When they retire.
Or maybe now that the kids are raised and retirement is here, when they stop traveling so much.
Or the volunteer work slows down.
Or the grandkids' aren't visiting quite so often.
You know: someday.
Never realizing that today’s someday has a way of turning into tomorrow’s too late.
What’s the alternative?
Here’s the good news. You don’t have to do it on your own. There are people like me who can sit down and interview you about your life, then write your book for you. Your stories, in your voice, written by a professional life story writer. You decide which photos to include, and a designer creates a beautiful book that you can give to your family and friends. All without you having to write a word.
